Dr. M. G. Palekar along with his batchmates organised webinar on topic “Running/ Restarting Chemical facilities during and after lockdown in Covid-19 era: Tackling Safety Challenges”

Based on series of accidents in Indian chemical industry during and post lockdown due to Covid-19 pandemic, Dr Palekar along with two of his batchmates Dr Anil Gokhale and Mr Ashit Dalal, from Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai, conceptualized a webinar on safety & restarting of chemical plants. Both Dr Gokhale and Mr Dalal, based in US, have expertise and long experience in safety aspects. Dr Gokhale is Director at Centre of Chemical Process Safety (CCPS), which is under American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) and Mr Dalal is an independent expert in Environment & Safety. Chemical Weekly, Mumbai and CCPS agreed to host the webinar.

Topic of the webinar was “Running/ Restarting Chemical facilities during and after lockdown in Covid-19 era: Tackling Safety Challenges”. The panelists included Mr Ravi Raghavan, Editor, Chemical Weekly, Mr Dalal, Dr Gokhale and Dr Palekar.

Around 350 participants attended the webinar. Mr Ravi Raghavan gave introductory presentation, followed by 30 mins presentations each by Mr Dalal and Dr Gokhale. Questions were answered by all the panelists. Dr Palekar presented concluding remarks.
