Environment and social assessment is a process for identifying and assessing potential environmental and social risks and impacts of a project during construction, operation & closure phases. Environment & Social management plan (ESMP) involves evaluating alternatives, designing appropriate mitigation measures and monitoring them for compliance.
STEP has conducted Environment and Social Assessments for infrastructure, healthcare and industrial projects to be funded by The World Bank (WB), Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), International Finance Corporation (IFC) and National Highway Authority of India (NHAI)
Environmental and social policies/ framework/ performance standards of international funding institutions provide mechanism for addressing & mitigating environmental and social impacts and risks in project design, implementation & operation, they provide a framework for consultation with communities and for public disclosure

Environmental & Social Impact Assessment of two solar power plants 40 MW and 25 MW in Charanka, Gujrat. The solar power plants were considered for funding by International Funding Agency (IFC). Scope involved Environmental & Social Risks and Impacts Assessment (ESIA) study as per World Bank Equator Principle and IFC Performance Standard 1 (PS-1), Preparation of Environment and Social Management Plan (ESMP) with capacity building and institutional development and cost estimates of interventions.
